SINGAPORE – The two victims of the shocking accident last night (Jan 24) where a silver Mercedes plunged into the Singapore River have been identified as Madam Yep Lay Choo and her only child Kimberly Poon.
Madam Yep’s husband, Mr Robin Poon, 50, was at a loss to explain how the accident happened when he was approached by reporters outside the Singapore General Hospital mortuary this morning.
Eyewitnesses said the accident happened at around 9pm yersterday. The car reportedly exited the Valley Point Shopping Centre near the Singapore River before plunging into the waters.
Divers from the Singapore Civil Defence Force’s Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team manually extricated the two women from the fully submerged car. Both women were pronounced dead at the site.
Mr Poon, a car workshop owner, said the family was very close, and they had travelled together last May. Their daughter, Kimberly, was studying at SIM University and was their only child.
