SINGAPORE – The Boys’ Brigade Share-a-Gift (BBSG) 2014 charity project has managed collect enough donation items to reach out to 35,845 beneficiaries in just under a month, announced the uniformed group at the closing ceremony today (Dec 17)
The donation drive, which is currently into its 27th year, saw donations of food hampers containing items such as rice, biscuits and cooking oil.
Donations such as adult diapers and school bags also found their way into the beneficiaries’ homes after some of them specifically requested for the items.
The donation items were collected from dropboxes at NTUC FairPrice outlets.
They were then packed and delivered by more than 3,500 Boy’s Brigade members. Nearly 1,000 members of the public also helped to donate and deliver items to the beneficiaries.
As of now, a total of 70 per cent of the food hampers have been delivered to beneficiaries.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, chairman of BBSG 2014 Lui Chong Chee said: “While we have achieved our target, the project has not ended. We sincerely hope that more will join us on our journey to deliver the food hampers, so that our beneficiaries can receive their gifts as soon as possible.”
While the donation boxes are no longer available, members of the public can still donate general food and household hampers valued at S$30 and S$50 via NTUC FairPrice’s online portal.
