Bukit Timah Nature Reserve to be closed for 6 months: NParks

SINGAPORE — Bukit Timah Nature Reserve is set to undergo restoration works come Sept 15, with full closure of the park to the public till next March, the National Parks Board (NParks) announced today (June 2).

The Main Road trail leading to the summit will be reopened to the public on weekends after that, while the rest of the Reserve will remain closed for another one-and-a-half years.

NParks will be repairing over half of the Reserve’s trails, and will also be stabilising its slopes and restoring its flora and fauna. A 1.3km-long raised boardwalk will also be built, and railings will be installed along critical areas of trails to ensure visitors do not stray off the trails.

While NParks reassures that there is currently no immediate danger, restoration work has to be done to prevent further degradation or major landslides.

NParks will also be upgrading the Reserve’s visitor centre, which is over 20 years old, and will add a new toilet block to house additional washroom facilities.
