SINGAPORE – A fire broke out at a food court in Causeway Point this morning (Jan 26), and the men who saved the day turned out to be off-duty firefighters.

The eight Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) personel - an officer and seven National Servicemen - were having breakfast after their 24-hour shift when they saw excessive smoke coming from one of the stalls, SCDF said in a Facebook post.

When they approached the stall and found the stove on fire, they quickly evacuated the staff and members of the public to safety.

The fire was extinguished with a hose reel and fire extinguisher.

“Due to their quick thinking, the damage was confined to the kitchen stove and no one was injured,” the SCDF said.

According to some witnesses, the fire broke out on the 7th floor of the mall.
