SINGAPORE — A lunchtime fire that broke out on the 15th floor of Shenton House led to the evacuation of the building on Friday afternoon (Feb 24).

Two women, one in her 20s and another in her 50s, were conveyed to Singapore General Hospital for smoke inhalation, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said.

The SCDF added that they were alerted to the incident at 3 Shenton Way at about 1pm, and immediately dispatched three fire engines, one red rhino, two ambulances and two support vehicles to the scene.

When firefighters arrived, the 15th floor was heavily smoked-logged, and they forcibly entered one of the units to extinguish the fire, which involved contents in the unit.

Around 150 people from the building were evacuated.

Ms Evelyn Wu, 33, an administrative assistant who works in the building said she reached her office at about noon, but was told to evacuate at "about 1.20pm".

“It was slightly chaotic during the evacuation, as it was during lunch hour there were not many people in the office, the announcement wasn’t very clear and I didn’t know there was actually a fire until I left the building,” Ms Wu said.

SCDF investigations are ongoing.
