SINGAPORE — A GrabTaxi driver’s account has been suspended by the ride-hailing firm, following a viral social media post detailing his alleged verbal abuse and physical assault on his passengers on Saturday (March 25).

According to Facebook user Satesh Kumaran, the incident occurred during a ride while his sister, mother and grandmother were going home from Joo Chiat Complex on Saturday afternoon.

In his Facebook post, which has been shared over 1,920 times as of 8.30pm on Monday, Mr Satesh wrote that his sister — following a terse conversation with the driver — was “punched on her right neck and arm” and asked to get off the Trans-Cab vehicle.

A Trans-Cab spokesperson told TODAY that the driver has been suspended for call bookings and investigations are ongoing. TODAY understands that the driver is still allowed to pick up passengers on the streets.

“Throughout the trip, the driver didn’t talk, but started to show signs of temper when they got stuck at a traffic jam nearby Bedok Reservoir Road,” Mr Satesh wrote in his Facebook post, which had two images of the police report attached.

“He began to hurl vulgarities at my family telling them he is in a rush. And all my sister asked him was, if he was in a rush why did he accept their booking... That agitated him and he punched my sister on her right neck and arm, grabbing her hand tight asking her to pay and get off this taxi.”

According to Mr Satesh, the trio got off the taxi after paying the fare and walked the rest of the journey home.

A police report was later lodged, wrote Mr Satesh, who also added a screencap of the driver’s details in his post.

Responding to queries from TODAY, the police have confirmed that a report was lodged and are looking in the matter.

In September last year, Trans-Cab struck a deal with Grab for all its 7,000 or so taxi drivers to use the latter’s ride-hailing app in exchange for preferential incentives.
