SINGAPORE — Visitors to Jewel at Changi Airport will be able to walk on sky nets suspended 25m above the ground and look all the way down from the fifth floor, when the Canopy Park opens in early 2019.

Offering a glimpse into the lifestyle and recreation attractions at Jewel, Changi Airport on Wednesday (June 7) unveiled plans to create lush indoor gardens, mazes, slides and walking trails to complement a 130-room hotel and 300 retail and dining outlets.

Spanning approximately 14,000 sqm, equivalent to the size of 11 Olympic-sized swimming pools, Canopy Park, which will house the recreation and leisure attractions, will be situated at the top level of the Jewel.

Designed by world-renowned architect Moshe Safdie, the S$1.7 billion Jewel will feature a distinctive dome-shaped facade made of glass and steel, making it an iconic landmark in the airport’s landscape. At approximately 134,000 sqm in size, it will offer a range of facilities including airport services, indoor gardens and leisure attractions, retail and dining as well as a hotel — all under one roof.

A centrepiece of the iconic five-storey structure is the 40m-high Rain Vortex and 50m-long Canopy Bridge with glass-panel flooring in the centre portion of the bridge for visitors to look right through to Level 1 of Jewel.

Open play areas for children have features such as Foggy Bowls emitting mist to create the impression of playing among clouds.

It will have one of the largest indoor collection of plants in Singapore with two custom-built gardens — the Topiary Walk and Petal Garden.

Located in front of Changi Airport’s Terminal 1, Jewel is being positioned as a world-class lifestyle destination in Singapore, enhancing Changi’s appeal as a premier air hub.

Jewel’s unique offerings will be a place where “Singapore meets the world, and the world meets Singapore”, right at the doorstep of Singapore Changi Airport, said Ms Hung Jean, chief executive officer of Jewel Changi Airport Development.

Canopy Park’s three key attractions are designed by consultants from Britain, France, Germany, Singapore and The Netherlands.

Jewel Changi Airport is a joint venture between Changi Airport Group and CapitaLand Mall Asia.
