SINGAPORE — The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has apologised after a video circulating online showed one of its enforcement officers in a heated argument with a car driver at the taxi stand at Yio Chu Kang MRT on June 23.
At one point, the officer suddenly pulled open the car door, and was stopped by a woman, who told him: “You are working for the Government. You don’t behave this way.”
The officer later retorted: “If he want to hammer me, ask him to come out.”
The video was uploaded on Facebook by user Tong Bock Toh on Saturday (July 2). It appeared to have been filmed by the woman in the clip. As of Monday 11am, the video has 23,000 views and almost 490 shares.
On Sunday, the LTA said it “apologises for the incident involving one of our Singaporean enforcement officers and a member of public at Yio Chu Kang MRT taxi stand on 23 June”.
“LTA does not condone such unprofessional behaviour in our enforcement officers, and will investigate the incident,” said the LTA. “We have also reminded our enforcement officers and traffic wardens that they need to discharge their duties with care and professionalism.”
In May, a former LTA traffic warden was sentenced to a day in jail and fined S$2,000 for getting into a brawl with an Uber driver at a Bugis Junction taxi stand last November, causing the latter to lose two teeth.
