In a statement today (Jan 10), police said the man is believed to have assumed the fictitious online name of Heather Chua on the social networking website.
The police said they received several reports from members of the public on the offensive remarks posted by someone who claimed to be Heather Chua. The first police report was lodged on Jan 3.
Through extensive investigations, the police they established the identity of the man who is believed to have assumed the fictitious profile of Heather Chua to make the remarks. The man is assisting the police with investigations.
The police have advised the public against spreading racially or religiously offensive material as this may be seen as inciting enmity.
They warned that any person found guilty of promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion or race and carrying out acts that undermine harmony can be jailed up to three years and fined. CHANNEL NEWSASIA
