New ERP system tender to be called soon

SINGAPORE — A tender will be called in the next few months to build the Next Generation ERP System by around 2020, Senior Minister of State for Finance and Transport Josephine Teo announced in Parliament today (March 11).

SINGAPORE — A tender will be called in the next few months to build the Next Generation ERP System by around 2020, Senior Minister of State for Finance and Transport Josephine Teo announced in Parliament today (March 11).

She said the move is necessary as the current ERP system is coming to its end of life and, if not replaced, will become more expensive and difficult to maintain and repair.

The new ERP system will allow the Government to calibrate the charging of motorists in proportion to the congested road segments they use, said Mrs Teo. It can also provide value-added services such as navigation, payment for roadside parking in-lieu of coupons and real-time traffic information.

Mrs Teo said concerns over the loss of privacy due to the new system are “premature”. She assured Members of Parliament there that will be appropriate safeguards to minimise privacy concerns.

There will also not be any change in the pricing policy and no new charged roads while transiting to the new technology, she said.

Mrs Teo today highlighted the importance of car-sharing, with the Government planning to ramp up support for such shared services by making available more parking lots in Housing Development Board estates for shared vehicles in car parks with sufficient capacity.

She pointed out that if six in 10 households in Singapore owned a car (15 per cent more than today), the Government will need to find parking space for another 150,000 cars. This could mean over 500 more multi-storey car parks in HDB estates, she noted.

Mrs Teo said car-sharing’s presence in Singapore is “still small and will take time to grow”.

“But I am optimistic about its prospects,” she added.
