NSman suffers heart attack after 2.4km run

SINGAPORE — A Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) Operationally-Ready National Serviceman suffered a cardiac arrest on Nov 18 after completing his Individual Physical Proficiency Test (IPPT) 2.4km run, the Ministry of Defence said in a statement today (Nov 20).

SINGAPORE — A Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) Operationally-Ready National Serviceman suffered a cardiac arrest on Nov 18 after completing his Individual Physical Proficiency Test (IPPT) 2.4km run, the Ministry of Defence said in a statement today (Nov 20).

The incident occurred at 9.15am at Selarang Camp and Corporal (NS) Gan Theng Kiong, 34, was sent to Selarang Camp Medical Centre at 9.20am after a medic performed CPR on him. CPL(NS) Gan was later brought to Changi General Hospital, and resuscitation continued en route.

CPL(NS) Gan arrived at CGH at 9.50am, and subsequently underwent an emergency procedure. He is currently warded in the Intensive Care Unit and is closely monitored by CGH specialists. The SAF is currently providing assistance to CPL(NS) Gan’s family.
