SINGAPORE – Starting next month, part of Orchard Road will be closed to traffic on the first Saturday evening every month.

Pedestrian Night on Orchard Road will see a 660-metre stretch between Scotts Road (Singapore Mariott Hotel) and Bideford Road (Paragon shopping centre) closed to cars from 6pm to 11pm.

This six month pilot initiative, led by Orchard Road Business Association and supported by the Singapore Tourism Board, will create a community space for activities such as street tennis and mass yoga.

Said ORBA Chairman Mrs May Sng: “Pedestrianising Orchard Road adds another dimension to our iconic precinct. Orchard Road will no longer just be a shopping belt, but a vibrant lifestyle destination with an array of activities for all to enjoy. We hope this initiative, together with our existing events such as Christmas on A Great Street and Fashion Steps Out, further established Orchard Road as this distinctive and must-visit lifestyle epicentre in Singapore.”

The inaugural Pedestrian Night on Oct 4 will feature Tennis Pops Up @ Orchard Road in conjunction with the upcoming WTA Finals to be held in Singapore. Visitors will get to try their hands at street tennis and see demonstrations by Singapore’s pro players.
