SINGAPORE — Singapore police organised a community event at Lentor estate yesterday (Oct 12) to raise awareness of crime among foreign domestic helpers, and also to enlist domestic helpers to fight crime in private housing estates.
Citing that foreign domestic helpers are a mainstay of private housing estates, and that they often have close bonds, police said that they could help one another look out for criminals who might be surveying the estate in the day for targets that they could hit on later.
Police also said training foreign domestic helpers in crime prevention would help raise the overall security of the neighbourhood.
The event yesterday attracted 300 participants, including 78 foreign domestic helpers and their employers.
The topics touched on included house-breaking and theft, trespassing, outrage of modesty, and dealing with suspicious characters. CHANNEL NEWSASIA
