SINGAPORE  The Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) today (Aug 25) introduced two candidates that they will field in the coming General Elections, becoming the first opposition political party to officially do so.

At a press conference held at the party's new headquarters, SDP leaders said treasurer Chong Wai Fung, 45, and member Khung Wai Yeen, 34, will represent the party in the coming elections but stopped short of revealing which constituencies they will stand in.

The SDP is eyeing Holland-Bukit Timah and Marsiling-Yew Tee GRCs, and Bukit Batok, Bukit Panjang and Yuhua SMCs. This means they will be fielding 11 candidates.

Both Ms Chong and Mr Khung joined the SDP in 2011.

Ms Chong, currently an administrator at Ren Ci Nursing Home, was elected into the Central Executive Committee (CEC) as treasurer in 2013. In her role, she's heavily involved in the party's fundraising activities.

Mr Khung is an accounts manager at a European multinational corporation and has been part of SDP's ground operations team which conducts walkabouts, house visits and food distribution activities to low income families.
