SINGAPORE — All fibre cable lines damaged in the fire at SingTel’s Bukit Panjang Exchange two days ago, which triggered a major disruption to a range of services islandwide, were reconnected by 7.15am this morning (Oct 11), SingTel said in a statement.

SingTel said that they expect that most affected customers will be able to use their services again, but added that there may be a need for limited network adjustments which may affect service performance for some customers.

Customers who may experience difficulties in bringing equipment such as modems and set-top boxes back into operation are asked to contact SingTel for assistance.

SingTel also said that its focus, now that repair works have been completed, is to determine how the fire started on Wednesday afternoon at the Bukit Panjang Exchange. Besides convening an internal board of inquiry, SingTel said that it will work closely with the Infocomm Development Authority (IDA) to review the robustness of its systems and minimise the impact of such accidents in future.
