SINGAPORE — A 25-year-old who took an upskirt video of a woman on an SBS bus and then swallowed the memory card to conceal evidence of his crime received a three-month jail sentence today (Dec 10).
A district court heard that Koo Kiat Boon, a Malaysian citizen, was on board SBS bus service 170 at about 7pm on Sep 3 this year when he spotted a “pretty” commuter, a 28-year-old fellow Malaysian. He had just gotten off work and was headed towards the Woodlands Checkpoint.
Seizing the opportunity of being on a crowded bus, he bent down, stretched his hand under the victim’s skirt and made a recording using his Sony Xperia handphone.
Caught red-handed by a fellow commuter, Koo then smashed the handphone repeatedly against the floor, hoping to damage it to conceal evidence of his crime. He then took this a step further by swallowing the phone’s memory card “as he was afraid of the repercussions,” the court heard.
He was arrested by police officers on duty at the Woodlands Checkpoint. The memory card remains missing to date.
Koo, who was accompanied by his mother, wife, toddler son in court today, sat red-eyed in the dock as his sentence was meted out.
For destroying the electronic record with intention of preventing it from being used as evidence before the court, Koo could be jailed up to two years and fined. For insulting the modesty of the woman, he could be jailed up to a year and fined.
