Wake to be held for the late Lee Seng Gee

The wake for the late Lee Seng Gee, the chairman of Lee Foundation who died yesterday at age 95, will be held on Wednesday from noon to midnight at the family’s home at 87 Meyer Road. The son of late philanthropist and businessman Lee Kong Chian, and grandson of Singapore pioneer Tan Kah Kee, Lee oversaw generous donations to a wide range of causes, from education to the arts. The family has requested that no wreaths be sent, and any donations to be made to Singapore General Hospital, Jamiyah Singapore, and Kong Meng San Temple. 

Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton expected to widen lead

Mrs Hillary Clinton is expected to widen her lead over rival Senator Bernie Sanders as the results of the West Virginia primary come in on Wednesday. It will put her within touching distance of being the United States presidential nominee for the Democrats as the outcome in West Virginia is unlikely to alter the course of the Democratic race. The results of two Republican primaries - in West Virginia and Nebraska - will also be made known although Mr Donald Trump became the presumptive Republican nominee last week after rivals, Mr Ted Cruz and Mr John Kasich, bowed out following the May 3 Indiana primary.

UMNO marks 70th anniversary

Malaysia’s ruling party United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) turns 70 on Wednesday. However, the celebrations will only take place on Thursday (May 11) to allow for the Conference of Malay Rulers meeting and dinner today. The celebration tomorrow is expected to be low-key, with many planned events cancelled as a mark of respect for the six people who died at a helicopter crash in Sarawak last Thursday.

There will be no rest for the Liverpool football stars as team manager Jurgen Klopp will select the strongest possible starting XI for their English Premier League match against Chelsea on Wednesday — only one week ahead of their Europa League Final against Sevilla.
