SINGAPORE — Two Singapore Airlines (SIA) Airbus A380 planes flying to Hong Kong, London, Mumbai and various other major cities around the globe will soon be taking off with a special livery of the national flag.
The livery, part of SIA’s celebrations for the Republic’s Golden Jubilee, features the 10m-by-47m Singapore flag-themed design on both sides of the aircraft, with the SG50 logo on the two inboard engines, the airlines said in press release today (May 28). The amount of decal material used for the planes can cover 56 double decker buses and decal application took about eight days, SIA said.
To prepare the aircraft for the decal installation, existing SIA livery was removed by 12 staff working over a seven-day period. The aircraft was then painted white by 10 staff in one day as the painting had to be completed without interruption.
The two planes will serve the Beijing, Hong Kong, London, Mumbai, New Delhi, Shanghai, Sydney and Zurich routes. The first aircraft will take off in early June, while the second will do so in July, SIA added. The planes will be in the livery until the end of this year.
Singapore Airlines Chief Executive Goh Choon Pang said: “Singapore Airlines’ success is closely tied to the success of Singapore. What better way to celebrate SG50 than by proudly flying the national flag around the world on the world’s largest aircraft.”
Other SG50 initiatives by SIA include a three-hour charity flight for Community Chest beneficiaries tomorrow (May 29).
