SINGAPORE – A 37-year-old man was arrested early today (Dec 17) for the suspected murder of a woman at Tampines Central 1.

Channel NewsAsia reported that the man and the dead woman–both Chinese nationals–are a couple but it is unclear if they are married to each other. The two are believed to have rented a unit with other tenants on the seventh floor of Block 503.

Police said they received a call at about 11.43pm on Tuesday. They arrived to find the woman lying motionless in the unit. She was pronounced dead by paramedics at about 12.10am.

The woman, whose age has yet to be determined, was found in one of the bedrooms of the unit. There were about eight other Chinese nationals in the same unit when Channel NewsAsia visited.

The suspect, who was bleeding profusely when arrested, had earlier fled the unit. He was found on the ninth floor of Block 505 - about 30 metres opposite the block where he lived. The Singapore Civil Defence Force had to deploy an airbag at the foot of Block 505.

A resident of Block 503, who wanted to be known only as Madam Moh, said the couple had been living in the unit for one to two years.

Police have classified the case as murder and investigations are ongoing. CHANNEL NEWSASIA
