SINGAPORE – Minister for Communications and Information Dr Yaacob Ibrahim said he “condemned” attacks by Israel on civilian targets in Gaza, in which more than 30 people were killed.

Dr Yaacob, who is also Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs, also called for Singaporeans to extend help to those affected by the conflict by contributing to humanitarian aid efforts.

He wrote in a Facebook post today: “I join the United Nations in condemning the latest attacks by Israel on two civilian targets in Gaza – a crowded market and a United Nations school, a refugee camp sheltering thousands of homeless Palestinian families.

“I am deeply saddened and concerned at the continuing loss of innocent lives including that of women and children in the conflict.

“We need stronger condemnation by the international community to stop these senseless killings. We hope both sides will urgently exercise restraint and hit the negotiation table so that peace can prevail in the region.

“Let’s continue to keep the people of Gaza in our thoughts and prayers and extend help to those affected by contributing to humanitarian aid efforts.” CHANNEL NEWSASIA
