SINGAPORE — The fourth edition of the annual OCBC Cycle Singapore safe cycling campaign this year will be expanded into a year-long programme, as opposed from previous years’ format of a month-long promotion.
OCBC Bank and Spectrum Worldwide - the title sponsor and organiser of the OCBC Cycle Singapore respectively - launched the campaign this afternoon (Feb 12) at a safe cycling clinic with 830 students at Yu Neng Primary School, where OCBC Singapore Pro Cycling Team riders Low Ji Wen and Travis Woodford engaged the kids in quizzes and games to impart the practices and importance of safe cycling.
The first safe cycling day this year will take place this Saturday (Feb 15), and the last Sunday of each month will also be dedicated as safe cycling days, with the use of social media to promote the safe cycling message this year, which is “Let’s share the road.”
Cyclists are encouraged to wear the OCBC safe cycling jersey every last Sunday throughout the year, and to post photos of themselves in line with the month’s assigned them using the hashtag #SafeCycling on their Instagram accounts, to stand a chance to win a prize.
Another first of the OCBC safe cycling campaign this year is OCBC Bank’s collaboration with the Singapore Road Safety Council (SRSC) – whereby members of the public are given the option to make a donation to the SRSC when they receive give-aways of the 2,000 limited edition OCBC Cycle Singapore safe cycling jerseys this Saturday. Proceeds collected will be used for the implementation of safe cycling initiatives by the SRSC throughout the year.
Donations may also be channeled into conducting safe cycling clinics for more schools from May onwards.
Said Mr Chris Robb, Managing Director of Spectrum Worldwide: “This year, we put the question to the community on whether they would like to donate towards the official jersey. It was fantastic to see such an overwhelming positive response, and we look forward to everyone contributing towards such a meaningful cause.”
Mr Koh Ching Ching, Head of Group Corporate Communications at OCBC, added: “OCBC has been a strong advocate for safe cycling since 2010. It is only right for us to organise this campaign every year as part of our efforts to promote safe cycling ... Cyclists and motorists want a campaign like this because it carries a very important message.”
