SINGAPORE — National rower Saiyidah Aisyah Rafa’ee has qualified for Saturday’s final of the women’s 1,000m lightweight singles sculls at the Asian Cup Rowing Championships.

The 26-year-old finished second in the repechage in a time of 4min 7.493secs at the Marina Reservoir today (March 13).

She finished behind Hong Kong’s Yan Shiu Ho, who edged the Singaporean in 4:7.328. Jen Mellah of the Philippines took third place (4:22.993).

Saiyidah’s performance today is an improvement from her disappointing fifth place finish in the 500m version of the event on Thursday.

The meet, which ends on Saturday, is part of her preparations for this year’s South-east Asian (SEA) Games, which will be held in Singapore from June 5 to 16.

Saiyidah, who won the women’s 2,000m lightweight singles sculls gold medal at the 2013 SEA Games in Myanmar, returns to Australia after this week’s meet to resume her preparations for the SEA Games.
