Shooter Teo Shun Xie wins first gold for Singapore at Commonwealth Games

SINGAPORE – Shooter Teo Shun Xie won Singapore’s first medal of the 2014 Commonwealth Games on Day 2 of competition in Glasgow, a gold in the women’s 10m Air Pistol.

SINGAPORE – Shooter Teo Shun Xie won Singapore’s first medal of the 2014 Commonwealth Games on Day 2 of competition in Glasgow, a gold in the women’s 10m Air Pistol.

In the final featuring eight shooters and an elimination format, Teo overcame a slow start to produce her best form as the field whittled down, and won with a final score of 198.6 points ahead of India’s Malaika Goel (197.1). Canada’s Dorothy Ludwig came third (177.2).

Teo entered the final as the fifth highest qualifier (377 points), with India’s 2013 ISSF World Cup Final winner Heena Sidhu topping the preliminaries with 388 points. Sidhu was unable to reproduce her form in the final today, and was the second shooter to be eliminated.

At the last Games in New Delhi, shooting delivered five of the Republic’s 11 gold medals.
