KUALA LUMPUR — Two popular local artistes have pledged their support for Dr Mahathir Mohamad after the former prime minister said he was alone in the quest for answers over various issues raised with Prime Minister Najib Razak.

Siti Nurhaliza, Malaysia's wealthiest female singer, said her support would always be with Dr Mahathir, noting that he had left a lasting legacy in developing the nation.

In an a post on social networking site Instagram, Siti expressed her support for Dr Mahathir saying “Dr Mahathir’s leadership facing many challenges and adversities in developing Malaysia that it has become known in the world, should be appreciated and emulated.”

She added, “There will not be young ones if not for the old people.”

Since it was uploaded a day ago, her posting has garnered some 17,000 likes.

In his latest post on his popular blog chedet.cc on Monday (April 13), Dr Mahathir said he felt as if he was alone in his quest for answers over various issues he had raised, referring to the 1Malaysian Development Berhad (1MDB) debts and the murder of Mongolian Altantuya Shaariibuu.

The former prime minister said he was merely seeking answers and denied his attacks were the result of Putrajaya not building the crooked bridge linking Johor and Singapore.

Actress Rozita Che Wan also assured Dr Mahathir that he was not alone but added that no one would listen to their questions as they were only "ordinary folks". Her post has garnered over 10,000 likes since posting.

Earlier today, former United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) vice president Muhammad Muhd Taib said that the former prime minister could always count on the silent majority for support.

Mr Muhammad, who is now a Parti Islam SeMalaysia (PAS) member, said the majority of people, like Dr Mahathir, were also eager to find out the truth because many of the questions remained unanswered.

"Dr Mahathir is not alone on this. The majority is following the development (between Dr Mahathir and Najib) and instead of giving answers, the prime minister is going around gathering his supporters to show off strength,” said Mr Muhammad

"There is nothing to cheer about really. I think the silent majority is watching from the sidelines and listening to what Dr Mahathir is saying," Mr Muhammad, also known as Mat Taib, told The Malaysian Insider.

Mr Muhammad also said that both Najib and Putrajaya should take Dr Mahathir's criticism positively because there were now too many indications showing that the country was no longer

on track, politically, socially and economically.

He said during the 11 years working under Dr Mahathir, the latter had never rebuked anyone blindly, unless he wanted changes for the better.

Dr Mahathir has gone on a tirade against Mr Najib in recent months, urging the Mr Najib to step down over the 1MDB scandal, for continuing the Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia, and also the murder of Altantuya.

Mr Najib gave a special interview on TV3 to address the issues raised by Dr Mahathir last week but the latter noted that there were many questions still left unanswered which included the whereabouts of 1MDB's Cayman Islands funds which had reportedly been parked in Singapore.
