KUALA LUMPUR — A pedestrian bridge under construction in Kuala Lumpur collapsed on Wednesday (Nov 30) afternoon, injuring five.

The pedestrian bridge, linking the up-and-coming KL Eco City to the Gardens shopping mall at Mid Valley, was still under construction.

The fire department was alerted to the incident at 3.33pm, and firemen have been dispatched to the scene, said City Fire and Rescue Department chief operations officer Samsol Maarif Saibani.

Work is ongoing to rescue two more victims trapped under the rubble of the collapsed bridge, added the fire department.

The Malay Mail Online has also contacted the developer of KL Eco City, SP Setia Berhad, for comment and is expecting a statement soon.

On its website, KL Eco City is described as a “world class city-within-a city” on 25-acres of prime land and is a mixed development of commercial, retail space and luxury residential property. AGENCIES
