Two members of K-pop boyband SF9 have tested positive for COVID-19.
The nine-member band’s talent agency FNC Entertainment said yesterday (Oct 14) that Dawon and Hwiyoung underwent the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test after coming in close contact with a confirmed case, a FNC staffer, last week.
The other SF9 members were also tested and their results were negative.
FNC said in a statement that Dawon and Hwiyoung are under quarantine and are taking all necessary measures as directed by the Central Disease Control Headquarters.
Although the remaining members – Young Bin, Inseong, Jaeyoon, Zuho, Rowoon, Yoo Taeyang and Chani – were tested negative, if they are identified as primary contacts of the two cases, they too are required to quarantine.
If this happens, the schedules of Rowoon and Inseong, who have performances and appearances lined up in the next couple of weeks, will be affected.
“We will comply with the requests and guidelines of disease control authorities with the health and safety of our artists as the top priority,” said FNC.
This development comes just two weeks after SF9 leader Young Bin was slammed for his controversial comments about vaccination.
It was reported by several Korean entertainment sites, including Soompi, that the rapper was in two minds about getting vaccinated.
During a live stream on September 27, he said: “They said getting the vaccine hurts, so I didn’t get vaccinated. Honestly, I don’t think I’ll get COVID-19 even if I don’t get vaccinated because I’m not exposed to the dangers of COVID-19. But I am a bit scared because a lot of my acquaintances have contracted COVID-19. It seems like you can get COVID-19 even if you get vaccinated, so I’m wondering if I have to.”
However, some of Young Bin’s fans said that his words were taken out of context as he had previously tried to schedule a vaccination appointment, but “there weren’t any [available]” at the time.
Young Bin later issued an apology on the group's official fan site, saying: “I am deeply reflecting on having made such careless remarks in a broadcast watched by many people. I will be vaccinated as soon as possible, and I will rectify my misguided thoughts and be more careful and mindful with my words and actions.”
This is not the first time FNC's artistes have been infected with the virus.
Last month, all five members of pop rock band N.Flying were diagnosed with COVID-19.
