If you haven’t already heard, there’s a ‘Makan Faves’ category on meWATCH where viewers can access the best of homegrown food shows produced in Mandarin, English, Malay and Tamil for free. There are currently more than 20 shows available, featuring sumptuous home-cooked fare, traditional hawker delights, exotic delicacies and sweet desserts. Not sure where to begin? Why not start your viewing course with cooking competitions. There’s nothing like watching amateur chefs stressing out as they try to replicate an iconic dish or create a feast with limited ingredients under an hour (or less).

1 of 5 King of Culinary

Each ep of this Lee Teng-hosted show sees a PMET-cum-cooking enthusiast unleashing their kitchen prowess against three celeb chefs in three different rounds. If the ‘civilian’ loses, no big deal. But if it’s a professional chef who fails to impress the judges, that’s another story.

2 of 5 Juara Memasak All-Star

For its fifth season, Suria’s long-running cooking competition features past contestants vying for the $10,000 top prize and the title of — dramatic pause — Juara Memasak (or ‘Champion Cook’ in English). With Marina Yusoff as host and Chef Bob, Chef Amri and Chef Iskander as judges.

3 of 5 Suvai Season 5

Are two heads better than one? Or does having an extra pair of hands get in the way of victory? Find out in this cooking competition series from Vasantham which pits 18 couples against one another in a culinary showdown of epic proportions.

4 of 5 Kek Champion

Who’s in the mood for some desserts? If yes, then check out Suria’s bake-off contest where 10 amateur pastry chefs are put through the wringer in various challenges. Hosted by Huda Ali and Chef Bob.

5 of 5 MasterChef Singapore

The inaugural Singapore edition of the world’s greatest cooking competition has 10 home-cooks trying to their darn best to impress judges Bjorn Shen, Damian D’Silva and Audra Morrice. If you’re planning to audition for Season 2 (application closes on Oct 4), watch and learn.
