Ah Girls Go Army’s Kelly Kimberly Cheong Points Out “Rookie Mistakes” In Kurt Tay's Void Deck Fight

Kelly is a trained martial artist proficient in several types of martial arts.

If you’ve been online recently, chances are you’d have seen this viral video of online personality Kurt Tay, 40, sparring with a "hater" at a void deck.

Kurt is probably best known as a “hardcore wrestling fan”, and has previously landed himself in trouble after responding to antagonistic taunts from netizens, who Kurt describes as “haters”.

In the video, which was taken from a live stream Kurt did on YouTube on July 5, he can be seen meeting up with a "hater" at Yishun MRT station. The man, who was dressed in a green tee, was later identified as Loh Jia Hung.

They then made their way to a nearby void deck, where they started sparring after shaking hands.

What even was the point of this fight?

Though Kurt attempted to use some wrestling moves on his opponent, he was ultimately unsuccessful, and ended up on the ground after being pushed. Kurt also received some blows after falling.

Even as the fight was going on, members of the public appeared unfazed, with some walking between the two men.

After the fight, Kurt shared that he ended up with a bloody lip, swollen finger, as well as some bruises on his left elbow and stomach.

The video has has since been taken down.

According to AsiaOne, Kurt, who works as a security guard, took down the video upon the request of the police. Both parties are currently under police investigation.

Kelly's fighting fit.

On July 7, Ah Girls Go Army actress Kelly Kimberly Cheong, 28, posted a video on her Instagram, analysing the fight and sharing some “rookie mistakes” that she noticed.

Kelly, who plays Amanda Man in Ah Girls Go Army, is a trained martial artist. According to reports, she is proficient in several types of martial arts, including Krav Maga, Muay Thai and Judo.

In her caption, Kelly also shared that she does not condone the actions of Kurt’s opponent, and that she hopes that Kurt will feel better soon.

How to fight like a pro.

First off, Kelly shared that Kurt was not maintaining a proper stance during the fight, which caused him to lose his balance.

She also advised for Kurt to keep his hands up, as he was constantly dropping his hands during the fight, in an attempt to respond to the attacks from his opponent.

“This is really common for people who don’t know how to fight. They can’t deal with kicks. They think they do, but they don’t,” she said, sharing a short clip of Kurt dropping his hands while trying to block a kick.

"People who don’t know how to fight, tend to do [this, attempting to grab on to someone’s legs] whenever you throw a leg kick at them. This is the most common response to low & mid kicks from untrained people," she continued.

Well, the two 'fighters' are now under police investigation anyway.

"But the most important thing here is if you’re both gonna fight each other, wear some gloves, even if you’re doing it under the block, no one’s gonna call the cops,” she said.

Kelly also added a caption, explaining that wearing gloves will help to signal to passers-by that the fight is consensual.
