Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Set For Disney+ On Feb 1

Angela Bassett won Best Supporting Actress for her role as Queen Ramonda at the recent Golden Globes.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is headed to Disney+ on Feb 1.

The sequel, again helmed by Ryan Coogler, sees Shuri (Letitia Wright) taking over the Black Panther mantle from her brother T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman who died in 2020 from colon cancer) to defend her country from Talcoan, an aquatic kingdom ruled by Namor the Submariner (Tenoch Huerta).

Get ready: Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is coming to Disney+ on Feb 1, just in time for Black History Month in the US.

The movie rolled out globally in November to mostly positive reviews (84 percent on Rotten Tomatoes) and grossed US$827.2 million (S$1.1 bil) worldwide; it collected S$8 million in Singapore.

Angela Bassett, who played Queen Ramonda, won a Golden Globe on Tuesday (Jan 10) for Best Supporting Actress. It’s Marvel’s first Golden Globe for performance in a feature-length motion picture.

Rihanna’s theme song ‘Lift Me Up’ was up for Best Original Song, but lost out to the Telugu-language epic action drama RRR’s ‘Naatu Naatu’.

After the Globes, Wakanda Forever received nominations for the Producers Guild of America (PGA) Awards, the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards, and the National Association for the Advancement of Coloured People (NAACP) Image Awards.

The original Black Panther was nominated for seven Oscars — including Best Picture, a first for a comic-book movie — winning three for Original Score, Costume Design and Production Design.

While walking the Golden Globes red carpet, Wright was asked by Variety if she knew anything about the status of Black Panther 3. Wright said, “I think it’s already in the works…it’s gonna take a while, but really excited for you guys to see that.”
