Cecilia Cheung Shares Pic Of Her And Her Father, Who’s Reportedly A Notorious Triad Member In Hong Kong
Everything seems fine between father and daughter now, but they have a complicated history together.
Recently, Hongkong actress Cecilia Cheung took to her Instagram to share a sweet selfie of her with her father, Cheung Ren Yong.
Cecilia's mum Davies Shally, who is of Chinese-British descent, split up with Ren Yong many years ago.
"Only my old man can wake up as early as me. Feeling very awake [to] have breakfast with my dad in the morning," wrote the 42-year-old star, who's evidently very happy to be spending some quality time with her pops.
Can you tell Cecilia's dad was once a well-known triad member?
But while all seems well now, it turns out Ceci did have quite a complicated history with her father back in the day.
Rumour has it that Ren Yong was a notorious triad member who used to be 'in charge' of Yau Ma Tei, a district in Hong Kong. He was also nicknamed “Bearded Bravery” 'cos of his facial hair .
According to the media, in 1999, Ren Yong had accumulated huge gambling debts and wasn't able to pay them off. He then allegedly fled to Malaysia. As a result, his debtors threatened to rape Cecilia if the money was not paid. The star was then reportedly left with no choice but to sell her properties to help settle her father's debts.
Ren Yong was also arrested by the Hong Kong police in 2012 for allegedly splashing red paint on the storefronts of two retail shops in Yau Ma Tei.
In 2013, he was even alleged to have conned his business partner out of at least 2 mil yuan (S$408K) while doing business in China.
