Charmaine Sheh, 47, rejected potential suitors to avoid having “her mood at work” affected by romantic tiffs

The actress admits she chose career over love and is perfectly happy with it.

It's no doubt that netizens are very concerned about Charmaine Sheh's love life. So much so that last year, they even excitedly speculated that the 47-year-old Hong Kong actress was in relationship with a "tall and handsome" man, only for the rumoured boyfriend to turn out to be her brother.

Charmaine, who once divulged on Chinese variety show Dating with the Parents that she almost got married to someone she "can't tell" us about, did not explain why her marriage plans fell through.

If you're wondering why romance has taken a back seat in her life, Charmaine is here to tell you why.

Charmaine talking about her love life (or lack thereof?) on Memories Beyond Horizon

In a recent episode of TVB variety show Memories Beyond Horizon, Charmaine confessed that she "definitely has regrets when it comes to love."

She opened up that it's “actually perfectly okay for actors to enjoy being in a relationship”, but problems arise when they get into an argument.

"Sometimes when we fight it affects my emotions, and as an actor we need our emotions for work every day," she explained. "I experienced a few instances where my negative emotions affected my performance at work, and I really didn't like that feeling," she added.

It's why Charmaine decided to say "no" to many potential relationships.

"I chose my job, because I enjoy acting. But that's fair too, I'm happy now and it's fine. I just love my acting job too much."

Charmaine once admitted on Chinese variety show Forgive My Bluntness, which was hosted by the sharp-tongued Taiwanese host Kevin Tsai, that she has had "at least 10 relationships" in her life.

She also shared that some of her ex-boyfriends were from showbiz while others were not.

While she did not go on to reveal who her ex-es were, some of her most notable old flames are 2003 TVB drama Carry Me Fly and Walk Off co-star Benny Chan, whom she dated for four years before breaking up in 2006, as well as actor Kevin Cheng, with whom she ended her relationship in 2013.
