Back in February, Chinese actress Gao Liu made headlines because of a failed nose job that made the tip of her nose turn black.

Months down the road, the 26-year-old still has not recovered and she gave an interview to talk about her ordeal.

She donned a mask for most of the chat, and only took it off to show the reporter how the tip of nose is now crooked.

The actress revealed that the blackened tip of her nose has scabbed and fallen off about five times, and that there’s a piece of cartilage missing as doctors had to remove it to save the rest of her nose.

After consulting multiple doctors, Gao Liu has been told that it's impossible for her to ever fully recover.

“They say I would be able to recover about 70 or 80 per cent [but] it will take a year or two,” she shared before explaining why she went for that ill-fated nose job.

“I never thought about doing my nose but a friend of mine did hers and it looked really good, so I was tempted. A month after that, I was filming in Shenyang and me and a friend agreed to get our noses done after the shoot. The both of us felt that we didn’t look good on screen... we didn’t have enough self-confidence.”

“Before I went for the surgery, my mum told me not to do it because I was pretty enough. But when I looked in the mirror, I felt that I would look better if my eyes were a bit bigger, my nose a bit higher and face a bit smaller,” Gao Liu added.

“My expectations were to look good from all angles and it could be because I'm an actor. When people look at me in real life, they think I’m slim and rather good looking, but on camera they find me chubby and that my face looks really round.”

After being discharged from the hospital, she stayed at home for five months and refused to be photographed.

She only decided to do the interview so that she could warn others not to go to unlicensed doctors and make the same mistake as her.

The actress is now undergoing laser treatment and will go for reconstructive surgery next year.

“Even if I can’t accept the fact [that I may never look the same again], I have to come to terms with it,” she explained. “My mum was with me every day in the hospital, and without her I don’t think I would have made it through what happened.”
