After turning Hong Kong's Yau Ma Tei Police Station into a tourist hotspot, Chinese netizens have taken things up a notch by approaching Hong Kong policemen, who are popularly known as 'Ah Sir', for photos.
Not sure if the policemen felt flattered or confused when tourists started asking for photos.
According to Hong Kong media HK01, the trend started after a Chinese netizen shared on Douyin that she enjoys taking pictures of Hong Kong policemen.
Now that travel between Hong Kong and China has become relaxed again following the pandemic, many Chinese netizens have flocked to Hong Kong in search of these Ah Sirs.
Not only would they ask for photos, they would even record videos of the policemen on the job.
They would then take to social media platforms such as Xiao Hong Shu and Douyin to share their experience.
In fact, hashtags like "Hong Kong policemen patrolling the streets" and "How handsome are Hong Kong Ah Sirs" have become very popular.
Looks like taking photos with tourists is part of their new job scope.
One Chinese netizen recently went viral for her post about the law enforcers.
She said she had "mustered up the courage to ask the Ah Sirs for pictures", before swooning over how tall they are.
"I suspect that the no.1 criteria to become a policeman in Hong Kong is to be above 185cm," she said.
When asked why she took pictures with them, she said: "Hong Kong policemen bring back memories of TVB".
Other netizens also agreed with her, with one commenting: "TVB's police dramas left such a deep impression in those born in the '80s and '90s. Until now I can still remember the plot of [1998 TVB drama] Armed Reaction."
Meanwhile, another netizen remarked that the policemen reminded them of Ron Ng, who's best known for his role as a rookie policeman in 2007 TVB drama On the First Beat.
