Daniel Chan Almost Went Blind From Using His Phone In The Dark
The actor thought he had glaucoma but what happened was even worse.
Next time your mother tells you to not use your phone in the dark 'cos it's bad for your eyes, you better listen to her.
Just ask Hong Kong actor-singer Daniel Chan, 47, who came thisclose to becoming blind after doing just that.
Daniel talking about how he almost became blind on Po-Po-Poker
On a recent episode of TVB game show Po-Po-Poker, Daniel talked about the time he was filming in Heng Dian. He was in his hotel room with the lights all turned off and scrolling through his phone. He suddenly felt giddy and ran to the toilet to vomit.
When he did a quick search on the Internet, he realised that he might have glaucoma, and that "if [he] doesn't undergo treatment immediately, [he] would go blind in two days."
By then his vision was getting blurrier, and Daniel said it felt like he was "looking at things underwater".
However, Daniel still went to work, only going to Shanghai to see a doctor after completing his scenes.
According to him, all he could think about on his journey to Shanghai was losing his sight.
So scary
At the hospital, the doctor told Daniel that his eye pressure had gotten too high, and that they'd have to inject steroids into his eyes.
Yes, that meant the needle penetrating his eye, a procedure he had to keep his eye open for.
Daniel said the entire process was so "terrifying", his entire body turned stiff.
He even joked that if his hands were not restrained, he might have punched the doctor because the injection was so painful.
Daniel then said that the feeling after the treatment was like "switching on a light" where everything suddenly brightened up before his eyes.
