With the current two pax cap for dining in at restaurants, FuFu Pot, which specialises in hotpot for one, is a new place to consider for your next solo meal.

It will open its doors on October 8 at Plaza Singapore. Now, FuFu doesn’t do hotpot as you typically know it — you don’t order raw meat and veg before cooking it yourself in your soup base of choice. Instead, ingredients are curated with each of the eight different soups, with the entire affair served fully-cooked and bubbling merrily in a pot that stays hot thanks to a heating element beneath it (think food-court style mini wok soups).

The soups draw inspiration from flavours across Asia – ranging from chicken-and-pork-based Collagen (popular in Taiwan and Japan), to Taiwanese-style Stinky Tofu, Korean Army Stew and Sichuan Mala.

The casual restaurant is another concept by OUE Restaurants, whose portfolio includes the likes of modern Japanese fine-diner Takayama and grill-focused rooftop restaurant VUE.

1 of 4 No private booths here for introverts, though

Place your order at the counter, then snag a seat in the air-conditioned 94-seater (68 when socially-distanced) casual chic restaurant. The individually-portioned hotpots will then be delivered to you. Don't expect private seating spaces or partitioned booths (a la Haidilao’s hotpot stations at its MBS outlet) here, though.

  • 2 of 4 Each hotpot comes pre-cooked

While each hotpot set comes with a predetermined list of ingredients that are all pre-cooked for you, the restaurant is happy to accommodate any allergies by replacing fixings. Diners are also free to order additional ingredients, or soup, a la carte.

For example, the Stinky Tofu ($24.90; above right) gets you tiger prawns, clams, scallops alongside minced pork and slices of Angus beef. Enoki mushrooms, baby napa cabbage and tomatoes round out the dish. But instead of the traditionally eye-watering pong that wafts across Taiwan’s night markets where the malodorous tofu is commonly sold, the brand’s PR rep asserts that their soupy version using “rich and flavourful” tofu fermented in-house is not as pungent.

Other soups on offer include Thai-inspired White Curry ($19.90), Korean Army Stew ($16.90) and Tomato ($12.90). There’s also a plant-based Mushroom ($9.90) hotpot – vegetarians, say goodbye to hotpot FOMO.

  • 3 of 4 A motley crew of side dishes and desserts

To complete your meal are some modern Asian sides: think Aburi Japanese Chashu & Ajitama Egg ($9.80), Lollipop Chicken with Thai Sweet Chilli ($6.80) and Fried Stinky Tofu ($5.80). Desserts and drinks like fruit slushies, Aiyu Jelly ($4.80) and Kirin beer are also available.

  • 4 of 4 Just $9.90 per set on opening week

As part of the restaurant's opening promotion, all hotpot sets will cost just $9.90 each on opening week, thereafter increasing in price by a dollar each week. The promotion caps off at $12.90 on the fourth week before prices revert to normal.

FuFu Pot opens Oct 8 at #06-07, Plaza Singapura, 68 Orchard Rd, S238839. Tel: 6250-2193. Open daily from 11am – 10pm. More info via Facebook and Instagram.
