Mario Batali-Founded Osteria Mozza Reopening At New Hilton S’pore Under Ex-Partner Nancy Silverton
The chef relinquished co-ownership of his popular Italian restaurant at MBS, which closed in 2018 after his sexual misconduct scandal.
It was a sad day for gourmands when popular Italian restaurant Osteria Mozza at Marina Bay Sands shuttered in July 2018. Its co-owner, celeb chef Mario Batali, had been embroiled in a sexual misconduct scandal, which resulted in his business partner Joe Bastianich buying out his stakes in the 16 restaurant brands they co-own, including Osteria Mozza and Pizzeria Mozza (which had a Singapore outlet at MBS that also closed down).
But good news for those who miss Osteria and Pizzeria Mozza’s hearty Italian pasta and pizza fare; the LA-famous osteria is returning to Singapore in Jan 2022 under celebrated American chef Nancy Silverton, who’s also Bastianich and Batali’s restaurant empire partner.
The Silverton-helmed Osteria Mozza will be located at the upcoming Hilton Singapore Orchard, a 1,080-room property converted from the current Mandarin Orchard hotel which will also be launched next January along with new F&B offerings like “an all-day dining restaurant and a lobby lounge and bar”. Mandarin Orchard’s two-Michelin-starred Sichuan restaurant Shisen Hanten and chicken rice specialist Chatterbox will remain under the new Hilton hotel.
According to Hilton Singapore Orchard, Osteria Mozza will offer a “reinvigorated menu of winning classics from Silverton’s original, one-Michelin-starred outpost in Los Angeles as well as newly crafted dishes for Singapore”.
A PR rep for the hotel confirms with 8days.sg that “pizzas will be featured in Osteria Mozza’s menu”. The restaurant will also serve a selection of Italian wines and cocktails.
This means you can soon savour dough master Silverton’s famously delish puffy pies (in US, she’s most well-known for being the head pastry chef and founder of LA artisanal bread institution La Brea Bakery, which she reportedly sold in 2008 for over US$5mil before losing her fortune to late disgraced financier Bernie Madoff’s Ponzi scheme. She has since bounced back spectacularly by opening more eateries, including a new Pizzeria Mozza in London last week).
