6 Jurong Hawkers Dominate Michelin Guide Newcomer List For S’pore Bib Gourmand 2021

Hawker stalls in Jurong dominated the Michelin Guide Singapore’s Bib Gourmand 2021 list, which was announced this morning (Aug 12). The Bib Gourmand nod is awarded to eateries that “offer diners very good value for money, with a complete and high-quality menu priced at a maximum of S$45”. It’s not to be confused with the Michelin stars, which are awarded to eateries of exceptional standards as determined by Michelin inspectors.

There are 12 new entrants this year, including nine hawker stalls and three restaurants. Out of the nine hawkers, six are located in the Jurong neighbourhood.

They are:

● Fei Fei Roasted Noodle (Yuhua Village Market and Food Centre)

● Heng Heng Cooked Food (Yuhua Village Market and Food Centre)

● Jian Bo Tiong Bahru Shui Kueh (Jurong West 505 Market & Food Centre)

● Soh Kee Cooked Food (Jurong West 505 Market & Food Centre)

● Lai Heng Handmade Teochew Kueh (Yuhua Market & Hawker Centre)

● Joo Siah Bak Koot Teh (Kai Xiang Food Centre)

Hawker stalls Hainan Zi (Chong Pang Market and Food Centre), Jun Yuan House Of Fish (Old Airport Road Food Centre) and Kwang Kee Teochew Fish Porridge (Newton Food Centre) make up the rest of the new hawker entrants.

The other three new restaurant entrants are Da Shi Jia Big Prawn Mee (Killiney), Kotuwa (Jalan Besar) and The Coconut Club (Ann Siang), which was inducted into the Bib Gourmand list in 2018 but had to be reassessed after it moved premises to a nearby spot in Ann Siang Road.

A total of 69 establishments got a Bib Gourmand nod this year, with 42 hawker stalls, six standalone street food establishments and 21 restaurants.
