Chen Shucheng's Toa Payoh Bubble Tea Shop Closes Down After Just Three Months
Sad news.
After just three months in business, Chen Shucheng has closed his latest F&B venture, a bubble tea kiosk called Meme Xpress. The shop at Toa Payoh Central was a franchised brand from Malaysia.
Shucheng, 71, has a small stake in the business, which he co-owns with a group of shareholders whom he partnered for his restaurant Teochew City, which also closed down last April due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
When 8days.sg contacted the veteran actor, he declined to comment on the closure as he says the shareholders — which include the folks behind local zi char chain Ocean Seafood — are still discussing the matter. “I was filming a commercial (Shucheng is an ambassador for the F&B brands under Ocean Seafood) when they told me the news, and said there will be a meeting among the shareholders to update us about the situation,” he shares, adding that the closure was an internal decision.
Shucheng’s bubble tea shop is the second one to close just months after opening. Viral BBT hawker Zhou Zhen Yang’s second Beautea outlet, a few doors away from Meme Xpress, also shuttered in December 2020, less than four months after opening last August.
