First Look: McDonald's Upcoming Minions Happy Meal Toys & Nacho Cheese Sauce Bottle
We do a taste test for the cheese sauce.
Bello! McDonald’s Singapore announced yesterday (Aug 31) that they are launching a new Minions-themed menu at their restaurants from September 3. Other than new food items like Minion Potatoes, Melon Waffle Cone and Yuzu Cream Cheese Pie, the upcoming drop also includes 35 collectible Happy Meal Minion toys and a Smoky Nacho Cheese Sauce Bottle.
8days.sg gets a sneak peek at the Happy Meal toys and nacho cheese sauce bottle — read on for our review.
As we have previously reported, the Minion toys will be launched in weekly phases from September 4, with seven designs being released every subsequent Thursday at 11am. Every Happy Meal comes with one random toy, distributed tikam-style in an opaque capsule.
Each Minion will have a unique look (our favourites are the royal Minion and the vampire Minion). Each of the designs also has its own rare ‘golden twin’, so if you’re lucky, you’ll get an all-gold Minion with your Happy Meal instead of the regular one.
The plastic capsule for the toy is shaped like a Minion’s head. It ain’t the usual flimsy gachapon capsule; the good-quality container with a snap lid feels sturdy and expensive.
We excitedly open the capsules to reveal the plastic-wrapped toys. We got a royal Minion, a pilot Minion holding a banana airplane, a firefighter Minion and… a gold Minion golfer.
Here’s a closer look at the gold Minion — the portly, heavy figurine is able to stand up by itself, so it’d make a good display piece.
The cheese sauce bottle is only launching from September 17 with every purchase of Chicken McNuggets or Happy Sharing Box. We had a taste test and here’s our verdict: despite not being a fan of goopy, orange artificial cheese sauce, McDonald’s smokey version is surprisingly yummy. It boasts a sultry smokiness and a thick, creamy texture that makes the sauce cling well to our Chicken McNugget.
We could see specks of spices mixed in the sauce, which is easily squeezed out from the super cute blue-and-yellow bottle decorated with a Minion sticker. Good thing this comes in a 375ml bottle, ’cos we’ll be getting tortilla chips to mop the rest of it up.
Or you can get the Minion-shaped potato patties to go with the cheese sauce (we didn’t manage to try this).
McDonald’s is also offering meal sets for their new items, which includes this Spicy Chicken McNuggets Feast that comes with nine pieces of spicy McNuggets, fries, Yuzu Cream Pie and Yuzu McFizz.
If you’re ordering McDonald’s via GrabFood, you can also buy exclusive bundles that combine the cheese sauce bottle and a Happy Sharing Box with Spicy Chicken McNuggets and McWings (from $13.95 a bundle).
And from September 3, you can start loading up on the Minion-themed Melon Waffle Cone at McDonald’s Dessert Kiosks.
Available from September 3 at all McDonald’s outlets (Melon Waffle Cone only at Dessert Kiosks). Happy Meal minion toys will launch from September 4 at all outlets. All items available while stocks last. www.mcdonalds.com.sg.
