Frequent travellers to Johor Bahru would have heard of Kam Long Ah Zai’s fish head curry. The decades-old restaurant is especially popular with Singaporean foodies, as it’s located near the CIQ checkpoint. Regulars swear by the eatery’s rich, piquant gravy, which is served in a claypot loaded with a fleshy fish head, tau pok and veggies.

As Malaysia’s borders are now closed for travel due to its Movement Control Order (MCO), Kam Long Ah Zai has started exporting its famed curry in frozen packs. 8days.sg previously reported on an online group buy seller in Singapore offering Kam Long-branded curry packs, though the restaurant has announced on Facebook that it will be officially selling its curry here only via its appointed distributor, the Singapore-based company Choosy Food.

Due to the abundance of Kam Long curry packs flooding the market here, the restaurant also avers that it “will not be held responsible for any products that are not purchased from our restaurant, from Choosy Pte Ltd or its distributors as we have no control over the storage and logistic quality”.

1 of 3 Prices to expect

Choosy is now taking pre-orders via its social media pages for the curry packs, which are imported in batches. All you have to do is to fill out a Google order form, and submit it. Islandwide delivery is available at $8 per location, with an estimated delivery time between 10am to 6pm. Or you can opt for self-collection at Choosy’s office at Ark @ Gambas.

Each 1kg pack is priced at $13.50, or $12.50 if you buy 10 packs and above. For comparison, the average price of a Kam Long-branded curry pack sold by group buy sellers and Carousellers is around $16 to $20 for a 1kg to 1.5kg pack.

  • 2 of 3 Official vs unofficial curry

The frozen curry pack can feed two to three pax, though you will have to add your own ingredients like fish, veggies and tau pok. Each preservatives-free pack can be kept in the freezer for up to three weeks. According to Choosy, its “official” curry packs come with a label that details the product’s expiry date, nutritional facts and importer details, per SFA regulations.

  • 3 of 3 Group buy option available

Other than Choosy’s own social media channels, it has also partnered Facebook group Group Buys SG to offer its curry packs. It is currently in talks with e-commerce platforms like Shopee and Redmart to stock the curry, and has plans to reach out to supermarkets like Sheng Siong, NTUC FairPrice and Hao Mart.
