McDonald’s New White Choc Strawberry Cream Pie Taste Test: Nice Or Not?
We also try the Roasted Sesame Ebi Burger.
We had earlier reported that McDonald’s is rolling out their new limited-edition White Choc Strawberry Cream Pie and Roasted Sesame Ebi Burger tomorrow (August 29). 8days.sg got a sneak peek at the goodies today — read on for our verdict on ’em.
According to McDonald’s, this pie with a flaky filo pastry crust is stuffed with “luscious white chocolate cream filling and the sweetness of strawberry bits”. At first sight, it looks underwhelming. We kinda expect gooey, flowy filling to ooze out when we cut our pie in half. But the cream filling inside looks firm, even after we popped the pie in our toaster for two minutes hoping to get it flowin’.
To our surprise, the pie is yummier than it looks — like eating a good dessert strudel with a crackly, crispy crust (if you eat it freshly toasted). Despite its firm appearance, the strawberry and cream-infused white choc filling boasts a creamy texture, and is just sweet enough with a fruity hint of strawberry (you can see bits of it in the pale pink filling). But compared to McDonald’s promotional photo, where the pie is practically bursting with filling, the pie we got in real life has too little of it. Pity, since it’s tasty enough for us to want more.
We’re pretty fond of McDonald’s Ebi Burger since they introduced it, and there’s nothing to complain about this one either — the deep-fried patty, tucked between fluffy sesame buns and crunchy lettuce, is stuffed with chunks of springy shrimps, and goes well with its new sesame mayonnaise sauce (it tastes like Kewpie’s sesame dressing). In fact, we like the sesame mayo better than the Thousand Island dressing that came with Ebi Burger V1.0.
If you can’t get enough of Seaweed Shaker Fries, it’s still here, with the Ebi Feast set meal (from $10.20). The meal comes with large shaker fries, medium Green Tea and the White Choc Strawberry Cream Pie.
Back in July last month, McDonald’s launched its series of Matcha desserts, including this Matcha Dip McFlurry with matcha crumbs swirled with vanilla soft serve. If you like this McFlurry, good news: it’s still on the menu… while stocks last.
A Sausage McMuffin with Egg Breakfast Extra Value Meal usually costs $6.20 and above, but from August 29 to September 25, it’s going for $4.50 a set. Other than a fried egg-topped Sausage McMuffin, the meal comes with a hash brown and your choice of hot coffee or tea.
White Choc Strawberry Cream Pie and Matcha Dip McFlurry available from August 29 after breakfast hours at all McDonald’s restaurants, Dessert Kiosks, and via McDelivery and GrabFood. Roasted Sesame Ebi Burger available after breakfast hours at all McDonald’s restaurants and via McDelivery and GrabFood. All items available while stocks last.
