In-N-Out Burger Coming To Singapore — At 3-Hour Pop-Up On March 6
It’s held rather randomly at an Upper Thomson cafe.
American family-owned fast food chain In-N-Out Burger is an institution in its native US. Celebs have been known to flock to an In-N-Out restaurant for their juicy made-to-order burgers after starving through long award shows.
Julia Roberts famously went for a burger run there after the Golden Globes awards show this year, and In-N-Out burgers are regularly served at the Oscars’ after-parties.
If you can’t fly all the way to the States to chow down on an In-N-Out burger, tomorrow (March 6) is your chance to get ’em here in Singapore: local cafe Columbus Coffee Co. is hosting a pop-up event with the burger chain at the cafe’s Upper Thomson space from 11am to 2pm.
The pop-up will last for only three hours, and the 300 burgers available will be sold on a first-come-first-served basis. Three types of burgers will be offered — the Double-Double, the Cheeseburger and the Hamburger, which you can enjoy in two styles: Protein Style and Animal Style.
The Double-Double features two beef patties, two slices of cheese, onions, tomatoes and lettuce in between fluffy toasted buns. If you order an Animal Style Double-Double burger, it boasts a mustard-grilled beef patty, pickles and grilled onions. The Protein Style is similar, except it comes wrapped with lettuce instead of floury buns. Yum. The prices for the burgers are still a secret for now, till the pop-up starts tomorrow.
It’s the third time that In-N-Out Burger is doing a guerilla-style pop-up event here. They first popped up in 2012 at Boat Quay at the Golden Grill restaurant (where the burgers were reportedly sold out in five minutes), and again in 2014 at the Timbre @ Gillman food enclave in Gillman Barracks, which similarly had a sell-out response.
In-N-Out Burger’s pop-up locations so far seem pretty random. The Straits Times reported in 2014 that the pop-up events were meant to test Singapore’s market response to the fast food chain, though an In-N-Out Burger rep revealed that the company has no immediate plans to set up a permanent Singapore outlet. Yet. “These special events will help us make future decisions,” the rep added in a statement to the national broadsheet.
Maybe three pop-ups is the charm for In-N-Out Burger to open a permanent shop here? Meanwhile keep calm and head to Fatburger, which serves burgers in a similar style.
In-N-Out Burger Pop-Up is on March 6, 11am-2pm at Columbus Coffee Co., 220 Upper Thomson Rd, S574352. Tel: 6253-6024. www.facebook.com/columbuscoffeeco.
