If you have found Don Don Donki’s other two outlets at Orchard Central and Tanjong Pagar a tad cramped/cluttered and difficult to shop in, you’d be pleased here. The entrance is spacious, the aisles here are slightly wider, and the pedestrian walkways have ample room for shoppers to move around in. The high ceilings also give the impression of a bigger space. In fact, it reminds us of a prettier Japanese version of a FairPrice Finest supermarket.

Don Don Donki City Square boasts the biggest delicatessen of its kind, with both raw ingredients and ready-to-eat meals displayed in large coolers and on shelves. Unlike the Orchard Central branch, which has cooked and uncooked food products scattered everywhere messily, everything is cohesive and thoughtfully placed together here. The vast space here makes shopping for your dinner much easier, if only you don’t have to jostle with the inevitable hordes in the upcoming days.

Like other Don Don Donki outlets, there is a freshly-prepared takeaway food section here. We spied a large Donpen mascot cardboard sign holding a cup of bubble tea.

Okinawa brown sugar pearl with Hokkaido milk? Yassss. A regular-sized cup of Brown Sugar Milk costs $3.90, while the Sweet Potato Milk costs $4.90. They were previously only available at the Tanjong Pagar 100AM mall outlet.

The 86-seat food court is surrounded by its five food stall tenants. You can order your food and sit anywhere you like. The eatery is smaller than Orchard Central’s XXX-stall food court, though.

While it specialises in ramen, Santouka also offers Japanese-style ‘kong bak bao’ for those who are feeling just a tiny bit peckish. The Eel Pao ($4) has a fluffy lotus bun hugging a thick slab of unagi on lettuce.

The wall-to-wall shelves of condiments here is mind-boggling; we spied $6.90 squeeze bottles of wasabi-spiked mayonnaise.

Each bigger-than-fist-sized cream puff (this larger offering isn't from Naganuma) piped with Hokkaido cream can easily feed two people. “For you that aren’t satisfied with the regular cream puff,” blared Don Don Donki’s hand-drawn Japlish sign with its cute Donpen mascot. The amusing signs are also one of the many reasons why we love shopping at Don Don Donki.

Japanese discount chain Don Don Donki’s highly-anticipated third outlet in Singapore opens tomorrow at City Square Mall, and 8Days.sg trooped down to the new store today for a sneak peek. Touted as the largest branch here so far, the single-storey, 26,000 sq ft space occupies a good part of the mall’s B2 level.

It also has its own food court, occupied by five established Japanese F&B tenants. They are: Hokkaido ice cream shop Naganuma Ice Co, Hokkaido ramen chain Santouka, Japanese barbecue joint Yakiniku Heijoen, donburi specialist Bonta Bonta and fried chicken eatery Rang Mang Shokudo. All of these eateries already have branches elsewhere in Singapore.
