Ex TVB Actress Bernice Liu, 44, Spends “7-Figure Sum” To Enrol In 17-Month Global Business Administration Programme

The entrepreneur is planning to open a coffee shop and hopes to use her newfound knowledge to expand her portfolio of F&B businesses.

To say former TVB actress Bernice Liu has her plate full is an understatement.

Not only does the 44-year-old run a number of F&B businesses (more on that later), she has enrolled in a renowned global business administration programme at INSEAD.

Bernice recently shared in an interview that the 17-month course is highly sought after and she was among 200 candidates, which includes CEOs of multinational companies, to be selected.

Though the tuition fee costs a “seven-figure sum” (at least S$167K), she said it was well worth it.

The programme has taken her to countries like France, Singapore and Dubai for classes, as well as visits to large corporations in the United States, Israel and Brazil.

“What’s unique about this course is that it’s global. Where can you find a course where you can learn from big corporations in other countries? I have to work hard to learn how to manage a business well,” said Bernice.

The experience has been priceless

But that doesn’t mean she is taking a break from showbiz entirely.

While it is difficult to fit drama shoots into her schedule, she said "commercials are still okay".

She also has shows that are in collaboration with the embassies of other nations.

She has ambitious plans to expand her portfolio of businesses

Though her studies are going well, her F&B businesses have been hit hard by the pandemic.

Before Covid, Bernice invested millions in a central kitchen but has since shut it down.

Her bar also suffered a blow when 20 customers were tested positive for Covid-19 recently.

As for her wine store, it has transitioned to an online business and sales are relatively stable.

She would occasionally hold live streams to share about wines and promote her brand of vino, Bellavizio.

Bernice noted that although things are opening up, the F&B industry still needs time to recover from the pandemic.

“[But] We have to constantly think of new ideas and can’t stand still. For example, we closed the central kitchen and are now in talks with shareholders to open a coffee shop. But we also have to consider carefully things like the location of the store, where to source goods, coffee machines, and plan all details well,” she said.
