Ex TVB actress Michelle Ye, 43, playing an 18-year-old in new drama and netizens don’t like it

She stars alongside Chinese actor Ren Zhong, 44, who plays a 20-year-old.

Former TVB actress Michelle Ye, 43, is best known for her appearances in Hong Kong dramas Eternal Happiness (2002), Triumph in the Skies (2003), and Lost in the Chamber of Love (2005).

After leaving TVB in 2005, Michelle starred in a number of films, including action thriller Accident (2009). She went on to win Best Supporting Actress at the Hong Kong Film Awards for her performance in the movie.

The actress, who is now a regular face in Chinese productions, currently stars in new historical drama Madam Xian.

However, it appears that netizens have quite a bit to say about it.

For the earlier part of the show, Michelle plays her character as an 18-year-old. Her co-star Chinese actor Ren Zhong, who is 44, plays a 20-year-old.

Stills from the drama (see below) show the stars in character, and netizens are just not having it.

Michelle and Ren Zhong both portray characters who are half their age

“I don’t want to watch a love story between old people” and “It’s okay if you lie to yourself, please don’t lie to audiences” were just some of the criticisms they received.

Netizens were shocked at the casting for the show and questioned the producers if they cared about them

Michelle can’t seem to catch a break from her haters.

The actress, who also has a thriving career as a live stream merchant, also found herself the subject of criticism from her viewers.

In one particular live stream, Michelle wore an unflattering tan-coloured shirt. Her fashion faux pas led many netizens to say she's “out of shape” and that she has "lost her graceful air”.
