George Lam Shares Photo Of Him Without His Signature Moustache
Can you even imagine the Cantopop legend without facial hair?
Cantopop legend and veteran singer George Lam has been wowing netizens with his impressive vocals, after his appearances on a string of Chinese variety shows, like Singing With Legends and the Mid-Autumn Festival Concert in the Greater Bay Area 2021.
Recently, the 74-year-old was a guest on another Chinese singing show, Cantonese Good Voices And Music Team Storm, where he amazed audiences yet again when he performed his classic songs, Gan Zuo Gan Ai and Mirage.
In particular, netizens were very impressed after hearing George hit the high notes of Mirage perfectly. One netizen even dubbed George as having reached the “ceiling in the world of high notes”.
But of course, apart from his crazy-good vocals, there is one other thing that George is well-known for — his signature moustache.
In fact, the singer is so synonymous with his facial hair that when Hongkong singer-actress Charlene Choi posted a throwback photo of her dad, netizens couldn’t help but say he looks like George since they both sported impressive moustaches.
So when the actor shared a picture of him without any facial hair during the show, netizens were surprised, to say the least.
As it turns out, George sported a clean-shaven look back when he started out in showbiz as one of the lead singers of the band Jade.
“When I first started [singing], I was very happy to just strum the guitar by myself and write songs, but after singing for a while I begun to feel lonely, so when I had the opportunity to meet the members of Jade, I immediately joined them,” he said.
Netizens went on to rave about how handsome George was in his youth and that his son, singer-actor Alex Lam, 36, looks just like him.
In other related news, father and son recently appeared on another variety show, where Alex spoke more about how his parents’ divorce affected him.
George married former record label manager Ng Ching Yuen in 1980, and the couple have two kids together — Alex, and his younger sister April.
They split up in 1994, when Alex was nine and George went on to marry Cantopop star Sally Yeh in 1996.
Alex shared that because he was still young then, he only felt that his mum was a little lonely after the split.
He recalled an instance when he heard his mum coughing, so he fetched a glass of water for her. It was only when he was older that his mother confessed that she was actually crying at that time.
