Gigi Leung's new music video, which was directed by Karena Lam's husband, accused of plagiarism

Gigi's manager says the singer had no artistic input.

Hong Kong singer Gigi Leung, 47, recently released a music video for her new song 'Pause & Breathe', which is also the name of the charitable organisation the song is promoting.

The music video for 'Pause & Breathe' was directed by Hong Kong actress Karena Lam's husband Steve Yuen, 56.

However, on Monday (Mar 27), Hong Kong producer Chloe Wong and her team Chloegraphy Project accused the people behind the 'Pause & Breathe'' music video of plagiarism.

She claimed that the video bears a 90 per cent similarity to her 2018 work 'The Faraway City, Maybe Tomorrow'.

In her statement, Chloe said: "In the visuals and promotional images for the 'Pause & Breathe' music video that was released by Pause & Breathe Limited on Mar 22 2023, the filming locations, props and overall aesthetics created by the actors are highly similar to the 'The Faraway City, Maybe Tomorrow' project that we released in 2018."

"This is a serious breach of artistic intellectual properties rights, and severely impacts the artist's principles of protecting and respecting artistic originality!" she added.

Chloe's team also shared 13 pictures to highlight the similarities between their project and Gigi's music video.

Pause & Breathe Limited's statement

In response to the accusations, Pause & Breathe Limited took down their music video yesterday (Mar 28). They also issued this notice on their website:

"The statement posted by the Chloegraphy Project team was brought to our attention. The Pause & Breathe team has already removed the relevant videos immediately and are trying our best to understand the situation from all parties."

Couldn't the people behind Gigi's music video chosen a luxury watch store front that's not Audemars Piguet?

Meanwhile, Gigi's manager has clarified that the singer, who's the ambassador for the Pause & Breathe initiative, was invited by Hong Kong photographer Alain Yip to perform the song and be part of the music video.

Gigi, however, did not have any artistic input.

The manager also said they will let the Pause & Breathe team decide what to do with the music video, and will cooperate to the best of their abilities.

At the same time, Steve, who's currently in Japan shooting a project with Keung To, a member of Hong Kong boyband Mirror, told the media that he is trying to get in contact with Chloegraphy Project.

Everything looks pretty much the same except for the colours of the balls, to be honest. Now this is really too similar, right? Seriously... did they just copy and paste? Photos: chinapress, PBE Media
