Gillian Chung, 41, Says "Men Are Unreliable" And That She Would Much Rather Depend On Herself

This comes two years after her divorce from Taiwanese doctor Michael Lai, 32.

Gillian Chung, 41, recently shared her take on men and marriage.

The Hongkong star made an appearance on Chinese talk show La Ma Xue Yuan, which literally translates to 'Hot Mum Academy' (someone tell us why she is on this show again?).

Gillian, who split from her doctor husband Michael Lai back in 2020, candidly talked about her view on relationships and why she finds men, um, unreliable.

The 41-year-old admitted that she feels part of the reason for her divorce was because she rushed into marriage.

According to reports, she and Michael got married just two months after their first meeting.

Gillian also proclaimed that she is really enjoying single life, unlike say, her ex-husband who has not only remarried but is also a dad now.

“[Relationships] can be quite troublesome at times; you must worry about the other party’s emotions. Why would you look for someone to annoy you? To anger you? It’s just another obstacle,” she said.

When asked about her dating checklist, Gillian shared that she would want her future beau to be mature and responsible, while petty and calculative guys are a definite no-no.

With all that’s been said, Gillian is not against getting to know new guy friends. She added that there is hardly a lack of young men who are interested in getting to know her.

“I am not sure why, but I’ve mostly met men who are more immature. It’s not so much a matter of whether I fancy them, realistically, I don’t think we would make a good match, so I’m not in a rush to find anyone,” she said.

Her view towards marriage now? “If you have the courage to love, you must also have the courage to leave. You must depend on yourself because men are unreliable.”

Gillian feels that her relationships should be made public. She believes that the people around her partner should know of her existence, and that the other party should not mind since she’s super cool with it too.

When asked about her communication style in a relationship, Gillian said that she is not the type to check on her partner 24/7 but would require him to be contactable.

“He needs to be reachable when I am looking for him. Even if he’s busy, I would expect a return call so I can get a reply and know where he is," she said.
