Harry’s Opening Satay Club With Deep-Fried Kueh Salat & Wagyu Beef Skewers

There’s air-con in the restaurant, so it’s not your old-school Satay Club.

Some Singaporeans would remember the famed nostalgic Satay Club — a gritty satay-centric hawker centre that moved from Hoi How Road in the ’70s to The Esplanade, and finally to Clarke Quay, where it eventually closed in 2005 (a present-day iteration would be Satay by the Bay).

Come January 5, 2022, another new mod satay spot called The Satay Club will open at The Quayside at Robertson Quay. It’s run by the folks behind bar chain Harry’s, who decided to open a dedicated satay joint to offer their bars’ popular grilled skewers.

There are four types of satay on the menu: Mutton ($14 for six sticks; $22 for 12), Pork ($13 for six sticks; $20 for 12), Beef ($13 for six sticks; $20 for 12) and Chicken ($12 for six sticks; $18 for 12). Not cheap. Each satay order comes with ketupat, cucumbers, onions, chillies, peanut sauce and pineapple purée.

Other than satay, there are also kushiyaki-style skewers offered (each order comes with two skewers), such as Wagyu Beef Rib Fingers ($18), Kurobuta Pork Collar ($15), Atlantic Salmon ($15) and Tiger Prawn ($15).

If you need more carbs to go with your satay, there’s also Nasi Goreng Istimewa ($22) which comes with sides like Harry’s signature fried chicken wing (which you can order a la carte at $17 for six pieces), a fried egg, keropok and your choice of two satay skewers.

For dessert, the Club is serving Deep-Fried Kueh Salat (pictured above, $11) with ice cream and Pandan Churros with Gula Melaka ($12).

There’s also booze to wash down your satay, like Harry’s Premium Lager on tap (from $11 for half pint) and localised cocktails such as the gin-based Chendol Gao ($17) with coconut water and pandan syrup, and Milo-tini ($18) with brandy, Baileys and Milo.

The Satay Club by Harry’s opens Jan 5, 2022 at #01-05/06 The Quayside, 60 Robertson Quay, S238252. Open daily, Mon-Thur 4pm-10.30pm, Fri-Sun 11.30am-10.30pm. www.harrys.com.sg.
