Hongkong singer Dominic Chow, who rose to fame in the '80s for having a voice that resembles Cantopop legend Sam Hui’s, has alleged that a special needs school his son is studying in is abusing its students.

The 60-year-old shared that his suspicions were aroused when he was notified that his son had a broken toe on his right foot.

Dominic's 21-year-old son Zhou Jie is autistic and is attending a special needs school in Tung Wah. The singer also has a daughter and another son.

A few days later, the school contacted Dominic again when CCTV footage revealed that Zhou Jie has been assaulted in the school dormitory. The latter was said to have had his hair pulled, throat pinched, and was even shoved against a wall.

On October 14, Dominic lodged a police report as he suspects that his son is getting beaten up in school frequently. He also wrote multiple posts on his Facebook to expose the school.

In response, the school admitted that a staff working in the dormitory had “pulled a student and pushed him against the wall”, and that they had transferred said staffer to a position where he would no longer be in contact with any students.

The school emphasised that they have launched an in-depth investigation and that they have a zero-tolerance approach to such abuse. They added that they would assist in police investigations.

The staffer is said to have resigned.

Dominic has stated that he is not appeased by the school’s response as he believes that the problem is much more deep-rooted than it seems.

He said that when he visited the school years ago, he witnessed a member of the staff pressing his groin against a girl’s face.

Dominic said he lodged a complaint only to have the principal brush it off. On hindsight, he now “regrets not making a big fuss” about it.

The singer also shared an excerpt from a 2015 Apple Daily report about how a teacher from the same school had slapped a male student’s stomach and told him dirty jokes.

Although the incident was reported to the police, it came to a close when the teacher resigned for his “unprofessional conduct”.
